Materia Medica Lesson 1-7: Adiantum and other silica containing plants

 Silica is good for repairing damaged connective tissue. Especially important for filtering organs. Break down of connective tissue in lungs is emphysema. Liver, skin... all connective tissue need collagen and elastin, vit C, cystine and methionine to heal. Collagen and Elastin last longer with silica.

ADIANTUM (Maidenhair Fern) DRIED HERB. Standard Infusion, 1-3 fluid ounces; 8 ounces as hair rinse. STATUS : W/LA

Cut off Maidenhair fern low on the stem, but without disturbing the rhizome. tie in bunches to dry. Dry in a dark place - any light bleaches it. Tea is used for menstrual problems. Has to be thoroughly dry before it looses its water repellant surface. Is source of silica.

EQUISETUM ARVENSE (Horsetail) HERB. Standard Infusion, 2-4 ounces, topically as hair rinse. Use only herbs gathered upstream...inorganic fertilizer runoff alters the chemistry. STATUS : W/A

Horsetail easily picks up toxins, so only harvest from clean sites.

EQUISETUM HYEMALE (Scouring Rush) HERB. Standard Infusion for external use.] STATUS : W/A

AVENA (A. sativa, A. fatua, Oats, Wild Oats.) UNRIPE FRESH SEED, w/"Milky" center. Fresh Tincture [1:2], 10-20 drops, to 4X a day. HERB TEA (dry but green stems). Standard Infusion, 4-8 ounces. STATUS : W/C

Mormon Tea contains the most available calcium of any herb.

EPHEDRA VIRIDIS (Mormon Tea, American Ephedra, Canutillo) HERB. Standard Infusion, as needed. STATUS : W/A
