Materia Medica Lesson 7-2: Eryngium, Rattlesnake Master

 Good for chronic urinary tract irrigation. If red wine and strong coffee irritates your kidneys, this is the go to. Good for pain during urination, lower back pain and aching kidneys.

ERYNGIUM YUCCAFOLIUM (Eryngo, Rattlesnake Master, Button Snakeroot) WHOLE PLANT. Fresh Plant Tincture, 1:2, 15-30 drops in warm water. ROOT. Weak Decoction, 4-8 ounces. Dry Root Tincture, [1:5, 60% alcohol], 20-40 drops, in cup of water. All forms to 4X a day. STATUS : W/LA

ERYNGIUM 

Chronic laryngitis with excess, abundant mucus. Chronic bronchitis with profuse secretions. Cystorrhea. Acute cystitis/urethritis w/aching in loins, frequent burning and scanty urination. Dysuria w/incontinence from movement, menses, after coitus or in menopause. Hematuria. Incontinence, menstrual, menopausal, aggravated by movement; or from recent sexual activity in sedentary, previous abstentious males. Lithiasis with hematuria, especially from lower tract; or with hyperuricemia. Polyuria, from urethritis or prostatitis. Prostatitis, acute, in general. Subacute/chronic prostatitis with spermatorrhea. 

URINARY TINCTURE (all purpose)

Buchu Leaves .......................3 parts

Juniper berries .......................2 parts

Yerba Mansa.. .......................2 parts

Pipsissewa...... .......................2 parts

Eryngium yuccafolium ..........1 part

Mix as tinctures or make 1:5, with 65% alcohol. Use 30-60 drops (1 or 2 squirts) in 8 ounces of water, 3-4 X a day A general diuretic and antimicrobial for water retention and mild urinary tract infections.
