St. Johns Wort can sometimes shift a person's viewpoint, so the problems they are obsessing over fade into the background... particularly dealing with failure. MM says that men tend to fall apart more with failure and that St John's Wort is more helpful for men in such situations. MM says it is because men are never taught to deal with failure. I disagree. A man's value is what he does. Women are valued for who they are and how they look. Men are valued for their ability to provide, win the contest or the cache associated with their career. When a man fails, no one cares at all ho he feels or says he is still of value because of who he his. His girlfriend dumps him or his wife leaves him, his friends don't speak to him and his kids resent him for not being able to buy them the things other dad's have... if he loses the house or can't pay for insurance or college, he is worthless in everyone's eyes. I put everything into starting a business... it failed... I had to accept that no one wanted to know me for a long time after that... no friends, no dates. It sucked and no one could or would do a thing to help. A man is viewed as worthless if he fails until and unless he pulls himself up by his own boot straps. No man wants to be a loser, and it is depressing when you lose.... when it is a big loss, it is really hard to get back up, especially if you don't have a woman in your corner. Unfortunately, women who are strong enough to be strong when their man is weak are few and far between. It always takes two for balance.... sometimes, just to give you a reason to get up and try again.
It is a nerve sedative. The oil is useful applied to any spinal chord nerve, like sciatica. Sometimes helps with spasmodic coughing in children when rubbed on chest and back. Not effective for serious chemical depression. But, good for mood in general with a few weeks use. Is also anti-viral for certain viruses... or tonic to nerves and such affected by viruses. Helps with herpes and shingles. May cause photo-sensitivity in some people.
