Class Notes from Lesson 1-16 Constitutional

 Lesson 1 - 16.

Review of Sympathetic Nervous System.

Parasympathetic nervous system - pre ganglionic neuron long, post ganglionic neuron is short... opposite of sympathetic. Parasympathetic is mainly cranial nerves. Sympathetic ganglia runs right by the spine. Parasympathetic has minimal divergence. Sympathetic branches more - splits into many post ganglionic neurons. Chemical makeup of each fiber is different between parasympathetic and sympathetic. Cholinergic - secrets acetylcholine as a neurotransmitter. Parasympathetic nerves are cholinergic. Enzyme turns off acetylcholine - acetylcholinesterase (ACHE). Both the pre and the post ganglionic neurons of the parasympathetic nervous system are cholinergic.

The sympathetic nervous system pre-ganglionic neuron is also cholinergic. Post ganglionic neuron secrets Norepinephrine. Called adrenergic. Two enzymes control its reaction - Monoaminoxidase (MAO) and Catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT). MAO turns norepinephrine on and off. COMT turns of catecholamines..... epinephrine/adrenaline, norepinephrine, dopamine, serotonin... (etc https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catecholamine).

Oh, and apparently "lub-dub" means "you are on the pulse of things".
