Class Notes from Lesson 2-1 Constitutional

 Lesson 2-1

Getting to know herbs - use them to learn about them. Dosages. Bigger people sometimes need larger dosages. The right herb for the right problem may have remarkable effects at very low dosages. The difference between poison and medicine is dosage.

How adrenaline can bypass damaged nerves.

Another big review and discussion of various enzymes.

Mast cells - look like mushrooms. Histamine granules, responsible for allergic responses. Allergen triggers immunoglobulin IGE. IGE attaches to mast cells. Membrane ruptures. Histamine comes out (degranulation of mast cells). Histamine receptor sites receive histamine, triggers inflammation. Allergies get worse because more mast cells develop due to allergic response.

Antihistamines block histamine receptor sites. Also usually anticholinergic. I'm not sure about his statement that Actifed makes you sleepy... maybe it does some people, but it increases my heart rate and blood pressure. It is very different than Benadryl. The two taken together will knock me out though.
