Lesson 2-4 Physiology, Nervous System, Autonomic Stress
Howie talks again about how we are all adrenaline junkies.... but, I'm not... so, ho-hum. Women always say they feel safe and relaxed around me. Guys often say they feel mellow or calm around me. People always used to show up at my place just to relax and hang out. I guess I'm an odd combination of intense focus and thought but very, very laid back attitude and physicality... but, at least, dogs like me... "I have that going for me, which is nice" (Billy Murray in "Caddyshack') ... Anyway...
Lacrimal glands (Latin for tear), anterior and superior to eye. Also makes your nose run.
Salivary glands. Mouth gets dry with adrenaline response via vascular constriction.
Pancreas pancreatic glands, gastric glands... digestion. Enteric nervous system surrounds GI tract - like second brain. It controls it self - local control. Howie says that a mans brain is in his stomach..... close.... His heart is in his stomach, brain a bit further south.... and I freely admit to that! 🤓
Apocrine glands. Special sweat glands that produce thick, smelly serrations under stress. "Smell of fear". As he says - also draws panhandlers and human predators... no doubt about that... I was in some very bad spots before I learned "street sense".
Skeletal Muscles, Smooth muscles, Cardiac muscles. Skeletal muscles are voluntary. Smooth muscles have calcium channels - stimulated by acetyl choline. Smooth muscles, like digestive, are involuntary. Cardiac has fast sodium channels and slow calcium channels - mix of skeletal and smooth muscles.
Calcium channel blockers slow movement of smooth muscles.
Skullcap and valerian tincture good for muscle cramps. Trace minerals better long term, due to calcium. Many people who consume plenty of calcium are still deficient due to low magnesium. Supplemental magnesium can correct calcium deficiency. May help with seizures.
Atropine, from belladonna, is an anticholinergic that slows heart function.
