Class Notes from Lesson 7-7 Constitutional

 Lesson 7-7: Adaptogens 6, Sedum

Sometimes called Rhodiola. Sedum Roseaum. Rose Root. Highland plant. I've seen this one a lot out on hikes - I thought it was just stone crop, an edible plant mentioned by Bradford Angier... never tried it. So, now I know! I'm pretty sure I saw some on Mount Mitchell or Roan, maybe Grandfather, but he doesn't list it as growing in my area.

Lessons stress of "adrenal exhaustion". This is exhaustion due to adrenals, not exhausted adrenals. Lessens adrenergic stress and lessens exhaustion. Good for muscle tone. Slightly stimulates thyroid. Improves lipid metabolism in liver. Better efficiency of CNS and muscles, fewer waste products - you get more energy from same amount of calories. Helps with blood sugar. Mood elevator, helps with depression. May help bladder cancer. Slightly hyper-tensive. Mild stimulant, kind of like coffee.

Root is used. but crushed plant material may be strong anti-inflammatory. Most (all?) sedums have this property due to cresylic acid.
