Materia Medica Lesson 4-7 Asclepias, Inmortal and Pleurisy Root

 Pleurisy roots stimulates fluid secretions in the lungs - moistens the lungs. Also stimulates pleura membranes. Moves fluid. Diaphoretic. Mild diuretic. Bile stimulant, increases secretions in gut. Increases secretions to skin. Moderate tonic for dry skin. Mild stimulant of blood supply to liver, gut and reproductive organs - tonic. May help asthma.

Inmortal is more of a direct medicine it is a direct medicine. Inmortal is good for post-birth issues. Sometimes good for birthing issues. Partum and post partum... better than blue cohosh, with fewer risks. Inmortal is good cardia stimulant/tonic. Slows and strengthens heart and increases efficiency of cardiac output. Kind of like a mild digitalis.

ASCLEPIAS ASPERULA (Inmortal, Antelope Horns, Spider Milkweed) ROOT. Tincture [1:5, 50% alcohol] 5-30 drops, Capsules, #00, 1-2, to 3X a day. STATUS : W/LA

ASCLEPIAS CORNUTA (Common Milkweed) ROOT. Same as above. STATUS : W/A

ASCLEPIAS INCARNATA (Swamp Milkweed) ROOT. Same as above. STATUS : W/A

ASCLEPIAS SUBULATA (Desert Milkweed) ROOT. Tincture [1:5, 50% alcohol] 10-20 drops in hot water, to 3X a day. STATUS : W/LA

ASCLEPIAS TUBEROSA (Pleurisy Root) ROOT. Cold Infusion, 2-4 ounces. Tincture [Fresh, 1:2, Dry, 1:5, 50% alcohol] 30-90 drops. Capsules, #00, 1-3, all to 3X a day. STATUS : W/C

ASCLEPIAS ASPERULA Subacute or chronic sinusitis with green viscous mucous (as insufflated powder). Dry non-spasmodic asthma. Acute hot dry bronchitis. Acute cough or dyspnea after pneumonia with difficult expectoration. Influenza, dry, hot, asecretory. Acute pleurisy, pleurodynia. Cardiovascular edema with functional cardiac insufficiency. Cardiovascular hypertrophy in aged. Chronic rheumatic pains with dry cough,chronic indigestion, intercostal neuralgia. Amenorrhea; from recent viral infection. Labor, arrested. Uterine subinvolution, with poor drainage. 

ASCLEPIAS INCARNATA Cardiovascular edema with functional cardiac insufficiency. Chronic rheumatic pains with dry cough, chronic indigestion, intercostal neuralgia. Amenorrhea; from recent viral infection. 

ASCLEPIAS TUBEROSA Dry non-spasmodic asthma. Acute hot dry bronchitis. Acute dry pulmonary cough. Chronic dry cough with indigestion, intercostal pain when inhaling. Influenza, dry, hot, asecretory. Acute interlobar pleurisy, pleurodynia. Acute bronchial pneumonia with vascular disturbance, fever; or recuperating with difficult expectoration, dry, tough. Hyperemia. Hypertension with strong pulse. Chronic anorexia with depressed autonomic and myenteric stimulation. Atonic colon without inflammation but marbly hard feces. Dry, hot skin. Eczema, obstinate, not reactive to any measures, with short "honeymoon". Chronic rheumatic pains with dry cough,chronic indigestion, intercostal neuralgia. Amenorrhea; from recent viral infection. Fever in infants, suppressed sweating, with dry bronchitis, moist skin. Digestive headache in children. Pain in serous membranes, with dry skin.
