Materia Medica Lesson 6-3: COLEUS FORSKOHLI

Foliage is spice or tea. Root is medicinal. Stimulates activation of the enzyme that becomes ATP. Diminishes platelet aggregate factor so blood doesn't become thick and sticky. Inhibits mast cell degeneration. Increased force of contraction of heart muscle - increases efficiency of cardiac output. Relaxation of arteries and other smooth muscles. Increased insulin secretion, thyroid function and lipolysis. Good for eczema, psoriasis, asthma, angina, congestive heart failure and hypertension. May be useful in cerebral circulation and post stroke recovery. Eye drops may help with glaucoma. I did a search and found the leaves are mildly psychotropic , which explains MM's opening statement.

COLEUS FORSKOHLII ROOT/TUBERS. Tincture, 60-90 drops a day. Standardized Extract, 2-4% forskohlin, 2-4 capsules day (except with low blood pressure or with beta blockers). Hard to get the whole root in commerce; rely on the extract. Eyedrops, 1% forskolin
