Materia Medica Lesson 6-5: Coptis, Candidiasis, Epilobium, Tabebuia

 Gold thread is good topical substitute for Goldenseal. Good for sores on skin or in mouth or any mucosal injury.

COPTIS (Gold Thread) ROOT and HERB. Tincture [Fresh plant, 1:2, Dry root, 1:5, 50% alcohol] 30-60 drops, to 3X a day. Topically as needed, either diluted, or Strong Decoction STATUS : W/C

From  SPECIFIC INDICATIONS FOR HERBS IN GENERAL USE Third edition Michael Moore:

COPTIS 

Aphthous stomatitis (as a wash and internally) Herpes, topically. Vincent's infection (trench mouth). Pemphigus. Chronic or subacute rhinitis. Recuperating from diarrhea. Dysentery, for concurrent mouth sores. Asecretory dyspepsia with anorexia, atonicity. Vomiting from alcohol abuse the night before. As a topical disinfectant for abrasions. Rectal fissures (sitz bath). Skin ulcers, in general (external). Subacute vaginitis (as sitz bath). Subacute vulvitis (as a sitz bath). Thrush (externally). Lymphadenitis, with ulcerations of the mouth.

CANDIDA DOUCHE MIX IN A BLENDER JUST BEFORE USING:

Witch Hazel Extract (commercial)....3 tablespoons

Golden Seal or Coptis Tincture .........1 teaspoon

(or Oregon Grape Root....... ...........(1/2 teaspoon) WITH Anemopsis.............. ...........(1 teaspoon)

Warm Water .. ....................... ...........1 pint

Table Salt....... ....................... ...........1/2 teaspoon

Yogurt, live culture................ ...........3-4 tablespns

Douche once in the evening, either every second or third day. Eat,if possible, 6-8 ounces of live culture yogurt a day, and check urine pH in the morning with a teststrip...it should be under 7.0 and above 6.0, i.e. acidic. If often alkaline (above 7.0), decrease carbohydrates (especially fruits, sweets and tubers) and increase proteins. If too acidic, modify in the other direction.

All the next three are taken as tea to combat candida - anti-fungals.

EPILOBIUM ANGUSTIFOLIUM (Chamaenerium, Fireweed, Giant WillowHerb) HERB IN FLOWER. Standard Infusion as needed. STATUS : W/A

EPILOBIUM ANGUSTIFOLIUM 

Colic with chronic, non-inflammatory diarrhea. Dysentery, general tonic when self-limiting. Gastroenteritis with colic, green diarrhea, no fever. Prostatitis, acute, in general. Diarrhea in infants (with Mentha piperita). Vomiting in children, with green diarrhea. 

CHILOPSIS LINEARIS (Desert Willow, Mimbre) BARK and TWIGS. Strong Decoction or Cold Infusion, 3-6 ounces to 3X a day, WHOLE PLANT. The powder for topical application. STATUS : W/LA

TABEBUIA 

Intrinsic humid asthma with chronic candidiasis. Candidiasis, after antibiotic or anti-inflammatory therapy. Colitis from candidiasis. Chronic gastritis with sulfuric, putrid belching. Eczema, from candidiasis, iatrogenic sequela. Rheumatoid arthritis. Leukorrhea, viscous, fetid (as douche and internally). Acute vulvitis, with irritation and burning (as a sitz bath). Subacute vulvitis (internally). Thrush (externally). Allergies, in general. 

TABEBUIA (Lapacho, Pau D'Arco, Ipe Roxo, Amapa) TREE BARK. Cold Infusion, 2-4 ounce to 3X a day. Fluidextract [1:1, 50% alc.] 15-30 drops to 5X a day.Tincture [1:5, 50% alcohol] 1/2 to 1 teaspoon to 4X a day STATUS : U CORALLORHIZA (Coral Root, Crawley)
