Class Notes from Lesson 2-8 Constitutional

 Lesson 2-8 Drug/Plant Discussion

Howie talks really fast in the beginning!

56 year old client presents with severe osteo-arthritis in hip and leg, degeneration of joints. Nerve severed, in one leg, feeling in only sole of one foot. Hip replacement wearing out. Chronic osteomyelitis (bone marrow infection) in remission ,treated with antibiotics. Mobile. Constant pain. Regular use of valium and opiates like codeine. Smokes half a pack of cigarettes' a day. Occasional cocaine use. Early Emphysema, self regulated with some drug... Theophylline? He says it is a Methylxanthine - here is info on those https://www.drugs.com/drug-class/methylxanthines.html

He discusses caffeine and similar alkaloids. Apparently, that is what a methylxanthine is.

Next, we are told that the guy with all those problems eats a plant that helped with pain and asks the herbalist to find out what it was. I think he said Bryonia -and, that seems to fit the description.. Might worsen a pre-existing condition. It is cholinergic and para-sympathetic simulative.. It could cause bronchial constriction. But, it really helped his arthritis pain. http://www.naturalmedicinalherbs.net/herbs/b/bryonia-dioica=red-bryony.php

Opiates causing sluggish digestive tract. Bryonia also helping with pooping.

He advises using single herbs first, before making formulas.
